About

neck pain
Neck problems are quite common. About 30% of patients I see have neck pain, and seek Osteopathic treatment to make it better. Some common symptoms of a neck problem starting are;
  • Neck stiffness in the morning
  • Sharp stabbing pains when moving the neck or head
  • Headaches which start in the neck and move upwards to the temple or above the eye.
  • Pain and stiffness when sitting, along with shoulder /  arm pain.
  • Pain between the shoulder blades
Often neck pain will start in the morning, and ease off during day only to return again by the evening.

Therapists have a look at my How To Treat neck Pain one day Course in 'Training'

Neck Treatment

How To Prevent

  • Use a good quality comfortable firm pillow (not hard)
  • Exercise regularly
  • Sleep on side or back, but not front
  • Do not do sit up exercises, these stress the neck and aggravate the lower back
  • Take a break from desk work / driving
  • Make sure the arms on your office chair pass easily under your desk
  • Do not spend too long on your Mobile or Tablet

How To Treat?

  • Keep moving about, it will stop you getting stiff
  • Sleep with a foam pillow, not a feather one.
  • Sit in a firm supporting chair, feet on floor.
  • Do not sit and read, or drive a lot, or use
  • Do not apply heat to your neck, it will make it more inflamed and painful
  • Sleeping on your back, with your head slightly raised is the best position for sleeping
